70 new pictures at Annual Meeting Flickr Pool
I finally was able to upload all my pictures from the Annual Meeting. (no Wi-Fi in the Opryland -- what's up with that?)

To borrow from Las Vegas...
What happens at Club Energy stays at Club Energy. Unless it makes the XtremeASAE Blog. (FYI - Club Energy is the annual bash to benefit The Center -- previously the ASAE Foundation -- and it can get pretty wild.)
I figured I put enough embarrassing photos of others on the blog, I should put one of myself. (Sarah Varner and Anne Blouin - are we even now? The previous question will make more sense if you see this post from what seems like eons ago.

Attendees rockin' with Donna
Here's another photo of Donna Summer at the concert -- when she invited some ASAE & The Center attendees to get up on stage.

Tradeshow shoes
By far the most popular post from last year's blog was the "shoe post." I've had several people request a reprise, but despite my protestations that the shoe post was so "Minneapolis" or so "2004," they insisted. So, I figured who am I not to give the readers what they want.
Thanks a lot. It's truly an embarrassing post to do, walking around asking if you can take pictures of people's feet. I got slapped twice after being accused of having a particular fetish, but I did get one marraige proposal (no, not really, just an attempt at humor by one very tired blogger).
So, without further fanfare, here are the shoes I noticed on the show floor at the 2005 Annual Meeting:

Amy Everett from the Retail Solutions Providers Association. I asked her to stop by the bookstore to see if any of her members might have some cash registers that could help the flow of traffic.

Pamela Watkins from the Beaches of South Walton. She got them at a little store that started in Florida, Chicos. She calls it the "travel outfit store."

Mary Schaefer, CAE from the Illinois Association of Realtors. "Nordstrom's. Of course. Only Nordstrom's for this show."

Jill Podlech from the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education. Are they sensible for a trade show? "I think they are." And, no, her feet weren't cold.

Carol Leveroni from the California Association for Nurse Practitioners. The picture doesn't do these shoes justice; they sparkled as if she had diamonds on the tops her shoes.

Gina Ballard with PCI. Now, are those sensible tradeshow shoes? Gina didn't have a chance to answer, as her coworker chimed in, "No, they are not!" Do your feet hurt? "YES!"

Sandy Rice from the Convention Visitors Bureau of Greater Monroeville. Yes, they did go with the booth decor so technically they violated one of my goals, which was no costume shoes. I just couldn't resist the patriotism.

CJ Manuel from Marriott. Sensible? "Sure, it's important to look your best."

Our very own Liz Jackson from The Center for Association Leadership Board of Directors. Wow, these shoes leave me speechless.
What no men? Is that what you're thinking? Maybe I should have been slapped, huh?
Fortunately, I did run across one male shoe that absolutely belongs on the blog:

Geoffrey Mason from DoubleTree. "You should see the red ones."
And to prove the point, I took another photo of a man's "shoe."

Noah St. John from The Success Clinic. His excuse was that he had just from a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Sorry for making fun, Noah, thanks for being a good sport.

Exhibit hall on Sunday

The hall actually just opened moments ago. This is how it looked as they were applying the finishing touches this morning, and this concludes my series of floor build-up photos.

Opening reception
There was much to remark about the opening reception as guests were the beneficiaries of true Gaylord hospitality. Friends got together and met new people, there was much to eat, country sensation SheDaisy stunned attendees with a set of music, and, oh yes, there were those 45 bars. I got to 27 of them (one beer total, I swear). Here they are (click on the photo to see an enlarged version):

Exhibit hall on Thursday

That's the exhibit hall as it looked at 5:15 pm Thursday. I'll take a couple more photos over the next couple days as the hall gets built up.

Using Creative Commons Content for Presentations
Last week as I prepared for one of the sessions I am participating in at Nashville, I decided I wanted to get something fresh for the graphics in our slides. Off I went to Flickr in search of some creative commons licensed photos.
CC-licensed images that allow commercial use are fair game to download and incorporate into your presentations or other visual media. If the license the author chose also allows derivations, you can alter the original work as well. In all cases you are required to acknowledge the author as the originator of the image.
So, here is what we developed from the original photo taken by Todd Klassy:
One of the beautiful things about Flickr is that they make it easy for people to share their photos under this type of license while also making it easy for others to find and use them.
Visit the Creative Commons web site for more information on the license and also be sure to check out the ASAE/Center Annual Meeting group on Flickr.Posted by David Gammel at 10:56 PM | Comments (1)

Navigating Opryland
In the next three weeks before we begin to arrive in Nashville, the XtremeASAE Blog will be promoting a variety of sessions and events taking place during the Annual Meeting. We thought it would be a good idea, then, to provide a floor plan of Opryland so we can all begin to familiarize ourselves with the venue for our gathering.
You can visit the Opryland Web site to find additional floorplans if you need more details. Let us know if there is other information we can provide to help you navigate your way around Opryland.

Share Your Nashville photos
In addition to the del.icio.us tag for sharing annual meeting related bookmarks (asae2005), we have also set up a way to share photos from Nashville.
We have created a group on the photo sharing site Flickr. Go to the group site and join the group! Once you have joined (after registering with Flickr if necessary; basic accounts are free) you can begin adding photos to the group from your own collection on Flickr. Here are the steps on how to add a photo to the group:
- Go to Flickr and create an account if you haven't already.
- Go to the Flickr group for the Nashville Meeting.
- Join the group.
- Upload photos you took from the meeting to your Flickr account.
- View the photo you want to add to the group and click on 'Send to Group' button above the photo.
You may also want to use the same "asae2005" tag for your photo as well when you add it to Flickr.
Right now we only have a couple of placeholder images in place. Look for more activity in the Flickr group once the meeting actually gets rolling. In the interim, you could add your own photo to the group if you are planning to attend the meeting, creating sort of a "face book" for the event.
A note on using Flickr: Photos you dsignate for public viewing only show up for others after Flickr staff have reviewed your account. This review is triggered after you have uploaded five or six publicly viewable photos to your account. So, if you plan to share photos from the meeting, I would suggest uploading some early pics just to trigger the review. That way your pics will show up immediately when you are on site in Nashville.

Above Opryland
Thanks to the new free service, Google Earth, we can see an aerial view of Opryland. If you haven't checked out Google Earth yet, I highly recommend it. I took a virtual drive from the Nashville Airport to Opryland. Really cool stuff!
