Congratulations Richard Green!

Richard Green from Marriott has just received the Academy of Leaders Award, ASAE & The Center's highest recognition for industry partners. Richard has been a friend for many years and he is definitely a deserving recipient of this great honor.

Congratulations Richard!

Post to the blog!

We welcome the contributions of all ASAE & The Center Annual Meeting attendees for the BostonBlog. You can send your brilliance to bostonblog@gmail.com, and we will get it posted!

Saturday Sessions

Although I am hesitant to bring this up (because I don’t mean to be self-promotional), I just want to remind everyone that this year there are concurrent sessions the day BEFORE the opening plenary session at the conference (yes, I’m speaking during that time). I only bring it up because I was talking to a first-time attendee yesterday, and he didn’t realize there were sessions in that slot. He knew there were pre-conference workshops on Saturday, but had overlooked the “kick-off” Learning Labs in the afternoon (they are, in fact, BEFORE the “opening” reception that night). This is the first year, I believe, that ASAE & The Center are doing these Saturday afternoon sessions, so you may need to remind people as they’re planning their time at the meeting.

We hope your energy and enthusiasm are on the rise, and the Boston Bloggers are going to do whatever we can to build them further by picking up our blogging in the next few weeks. Sneak preview of the Pops tonite!

boston_pops.jpg

Happy Independence Day everyone! One of Boston's greatest July 4th traditions is the Boston Pops playing at the Hatch Shell along the Charles River, a show that you can watch tonite at CBS at 10 pm EDT.

If you tune in, you'll be getting a sneak preview of what's in store for us when we hit The Hub next month. Don't forget that Keith Lockhart and the Pops will play the Grand Finale Concert for the Boston meeting on the evening of Tuesday, August 22 at the Bank of America Pavilion. Personally, I'm very excited because I did not have the opportunity to see the Pops during my year in Boston, so this will be a thrilling new experience for me!

Where have we been?

Well, I suppose you could say that we've been taking an unplanned break from posting on the Boston Blog, but that is about to end. The ASAE & The Center Annual Meeting is now just two months away and the rest of the bloggers and I are really looking forward to sharing our thoughts and perspectives with you as we all prepare to spend several hot and humid days in Boston this August. I hope the air conditioners at the Convention Center are really, really good!

We are particularly excited to be blogging at this time since ASAE & The Center has just launched the organization's brand new Acronym blog. Our friends and blogging colleagues David Gammel, Shawn Lea and Ben Martin, all of whom blogged with us last year on the Annual Meeting blog for Nashville, are among the first guest bloggers there. In the weeks ahead, we're looking forward to creating a nice back-and-forth dialogue with Acronym on topics with specific relevance to the Annual Meeting. We hope you'll stay in touch with what's happening on both blogs.

If you would like to help us blog the Annual Meeting, please send me an email and I'll be in touch!

Welcome to the Boston Blog!

Welcome one and all to the incredibly wicked cool Boston Blog! I hope everyone out there is getting really pumped what is sure to be an outstanding Annual Meeting this August in The Hub! It will be great to see so many friends and colleagues there and I just know we're all going to have a fantastic time.

This blog is getting a bit of a late start, but we're underway now with a great line-up of contributors. Fellow bloggers Jamie Notter, Kevin Holland, Amy Smith and Mickie Rops are part of the group, as is Kathi Edwards, who blogged with us on the last two Great Ideas conferences. We're also pleased to welcome Lorraine O'Grady, executive director of the New England Society of Association Executives, who will supply our inside knowledge on Boston.

We are still looking for a few more bloggers to join our group, so if you think you'd like to help tell the story of the ASAE & The Center Annual Meeting over the next few months and, most important, during a few hot days in August, please e-mail me. In the meantime, enjoy the blog and please share your thoughts on what we post, as well as what we should post. We want you to participate in this exciting conversation!
