Great membership conversation

There’s a great conversation going on over at Tony Rossell’s Membership Marketing blog, around issues of membership, generations, social media, and participation.

Tony really has provided some excellent food for thought - as well as some very useful tools and information for membership and marketing types.

What struck me about his post today was the study that shows how joining organizations varies by age - few before 30 or after 65, peaking in the 40's - but that that pattern has not changed since 1974. So, feeding into our discussions of generational issues in associations, maybe we just need to have a little patience and faith and we'll get those Millenials and Homelanders yet!

Wayne -- I agree with your perspective. I am working on a post now drawing from a scholarly article on a longitudinal study of association membership that was completed in 1957 -- 50 years ago. It is amazing to see how much has stayed the same. I hope to post by the end of this week. Tony
